Now my credit card company appears to be as incompetent as ActBlue! Who is working at these places?

Not only am I sure that I unchecked the box, but they also made a series(3) of the same charge when I went back to the receipt to change the recurring charge from 12 months to 0 months. My credit card company seems to actually be making it worse.

I demanded a fraud investigation which seemed to get Actblues attention and they made my recurring account inactive. Meanwhile the card company, after getting me to close the card and open a new one, is now paying ActBlue the recurring charges (plural). I feel like it’s the twightlite zone or maybe I’m stuck in ground hog day. so how are they paying ActBlue and ActBlue has no record of it in my account with them?

Where is the $? Floating in cyberspace? I know that I now will have to deal with the card company as well as ActBlue.

The never ending nightmare and saga of trying to help out a candidate I approved of, but didn’t want to give my life savings to. We’re not all wealthy like the Koch’s.

I donated to ActBlue $10.00 as a one time donation

You have been taking $10.00 1 or 2 times a month without my permission. I think this is fraudulent and is against the law!! I expect to get my money back except that one time donation. Please get back with me so we can settle this dispute!!

This has been going on for years. A. I very very carefully make sure to NOT check the recurring payment box. B. I find recurring payments on my credit card. C. Still stealing money from me

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
This month I was once again charged 3.00 after I called them to stop. They have not. Now I have to go through all their BS to locate them and spend hours doing it. Their online search engine was filled out an asked me some question (date, amount, cc last four, etc.) and said it could not find me. Now I am going through the process them through the BBB and fraud section to try to put them out of business. This is only going to waste my time and effort to stop them and put them out of business. Wish me luck. Another wasted time when I could be doing something productive.

Recurring donations opted in without consent

I wanted to contribute to a political candidate. I explicitly stated that it was a one time contribution. After hitting submit, they thanked me for my recurring contribution. I currently have a support case open with them to stop this and will be cancelling that card. Needless to say - won't be using Act Blue again. I am much more politically active these days. I want to be part of the process. But thieves like this are making me rethink the entire process. I will not use Act Blue and I am much more wary about donating online. The rest of this is filler because this website wants 100 words. Ugh!

This happened to me and they reversed it immediately when I contacted them. I got two separate emails confirming that they reversed it.

ActBlue took out unauthorized money from Paypal account

Apparently, ActBlue has been taking $5 from me every month since Jan. 17, 2017. I have no idea who they are. I didn't buy anything from them, so the only thing I can think of why they are taking $5 a month from me is because they think they can. I'm not a Liberal, so I didn't donate to their political platform. The only thing I can think of was I must have donated to support sea turtles or something like that. But that does not give them permission to continue to take money from me. I want all the money they have taken from me. I would never allow them to continue to take money from me. Hard earned money. The only way I noticed this was I found an e-mail from Paypal. I looked back to find out ActBlue has been taking this money out since January of 2017. Why? What am I donating to? I want my money back. I never approved money to be taken out every month. I need my money.

Don't hold your breath to get money back. You have to be very careful to make a donation as a "one time only". Check back to see what happened.

I got an e-mail from ActBlue with no mention of total refund. They said they did cancel my donation.

I had already done that on Paypal.

I'm just irritated that I didn't notice this until month's later. I did click one time only. I always check when I donate.

That's why I'm so irritated. Since others have gone through the same experience, I tend to believe ActBlue does not pay attention to the one time only click.

Don't like the way they operate.

Has anyone else noticed that when you agree to a small donation to support a cause, (After signing a petition for example) you click on it and end up at ActBlue- and the small amount you agreed to is nowhere to be seen. Just a menu of more costly donations or "other amount" I'd prefer not to have to reenter the $ amount I already agreed to. I just exit without making a donation at all. There's too much $ in politics anyway. {{Redacted}}

Act Blue is still stealing

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I made a one time donation to Doug Jones back in December, 2017, via ActBlue. ONE TIME.

Today is Jan. 6, 2018, and I received an emailed receipt for my CONTINUING contribution this morning. ActBlue STOLE $25 from my checking account. I had read that this is a problem with ActBlue, but hadn't expected it to happen to me.

It did. I have sent them an email demanding they return my money; we'll see if they comply.

I cancelled what they claim is a continuing contribution, and I will never, ever send money to a candidate using Act Blue again. This will, unfortunately, make it less likely that I will contribute to a candidate unless I can find an address to which I may mail a check.

As you now know, the political party represented by ActBlue is well-known for financial and moral irregularities. You failed to properly read the conditions on their website, but really, should have guess there would be a trick to the whole thing. I am sure your money will be well-spent by someone.

Borderline Criminal Business Practices

On Jan 29, 2018, I attempted to make a one time $25 donation for Beto O'Roarke campaign. I was charged not once, but three times, and was, without my consent, signed up for a monthly recurring charge for each of the 3 donations.

I believe I was able to cancel the recurring charges, but cancelled my card as a precaution. I have contacted ActBlue via email and phone on multiple occasions, without reply.

I have filed a claim with my bank to pursue the matter, and will ensure to report this organization to any and all relevant consumer agencies. I will also ensure to keep others from processing donations through their website.

A similar thing happened to me but they took $10 a week. I had my credit card company reverse the charges.

I wrote to Doug Jones’ campaign to find an alternative way to donate but they did not respond. Now I want to contribute to Cory Lane but will not if this is the only way to donate.

Need more background.

Who or what is Beto O'Roarke ?

Another Victom of ActBlue!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Like others, I have been victomized by ActBlue from their fraudulent behavior of changing my one time donation into a recurring donation. Fortunately I worked with my bank and got all money back.

I encourage everybody who has been in a similar situation to write letters to the candidates or causes that use ActBlue, contact BBB, and contact 60 Minutes show to escalate this issue and make people aware of it. So far I have gotten little response from candidates. I plan to attend public meetings where the candidates are and confront them on this issue and try to get them to commit to investigate it. They more people that do this, the better chance we have to get something done about it.

Write letters to the newspapers. Go full bore!

I agree with above comment. If you do not read closely you are automatically put in the reoccurring monthly charge schedule.

Luckily I caught it. I will never donate through this organization again.

They have taken my mother for a lot of money, to the point where I had to step in and pay some of her bills. It was around 500 dollars missing from her account all told. Every time she signed one of those surveys she thought she was clicking 'no' to recurring contributions, but they were bleeding her bank account repeatedly every time. It's unreal. If Dems want working people to take them seriously as being on our side, they need to not do things like this. How can they call themselves representative of the common people when they allow fundraising in such a dishonest way?

Recurring contributions

When donors fill out the donor information page, they need to make sure the 'monthly donation' box is not check marked. Sometimes this box auto fills as checked. When a donor gets a confirmation email, and it shows the donation as 'recurring', they then have the opportunity to access their donation page to uncheck the monthly box. Donors have to pay attention to what they are doing. I know this from personal experience. I didn't notice that the 'monthly contribution' box was checked when I made a donation. When my confirmation email came, it contained a link that enabled me to quickly correct my donation page. Problem solved.

Financial Reports

I can't find anything, such as financial reports/org charts/officers/owners, on the internet that will give me any information concerning this organization. I was one of the people from which ActBlue took unauthorized monthly donations.

I got them to stop. I did notice that the check-mark for monthly donations is the default setting and unobtrusively displayed. They have since changed that. What is apparent to me is they make tons of money from "tips", make their own campaigns (with lead-in surveys), and I have no way of finding whether donations actually end up in the hands of the "causes".

Do the "causes" know there are campaigns or does ActBlue initiate campaigns on their own?

This inquiring mind wants to know. ActBlue could be on the side of the righteous, but how can I tell for sure?
